I’ve seen this a lot online. If a game gets a bad review and someone has a different opinion on it (for example, say it’s good), someone uses a review to prove that the game is bad. If game reviews themselves are opinion, then why do some people use treat them as if they are fact? Aren’t people entitled to have a different opinion than a game reviewer?
People are indeed able to think that games are bad or good on their own. But most of the time, when professional game reviewers say a game is bad, they will say why they think it is bad. Most of the time, they have valid points. They never say something like "I don’t like sports games, so I didn’t like this game because it was a football game". Most of the time the reasoning behind not liking a game is thought out.
Now on the other hand, you have unprofessional game reviewers who don’t fall in to this category at all. It is all about knowing how to spot a legitimate reviewer who is good at what they do

I don’t listen to reviews…. If I want to buy a game I’ll buy it regardless of what some 40 year old virgin has written on his shitty website.

Well, magazines like Game Informer aren’t exactly just a bunch of random dudes saying this or that about games. They’re basically professional reviewers, and they review games from a very non-biased stance, from what I’ve seen. I do try to take their reviews more as suggestions than fact, but I’ve found that, if they say a game is good, it’s good, and if they say a game sucks, it sucks.
