Calling all gamers! It’s time for Paul’s Top Ten Tips for building a Gaming PC. Maybe you’re a first-time builder looking for some advice, or maybe you’re just brushing up on your skills — either way, here’s some suggestions to keep your gaming rig build on the right track.

We’re also happy to finally have a test bed that we’ll be using for future benchmarks and reviews, and the first piece of hardware we’re “testing” is the Intel Core i7 980X Extreme Edition CPU! Stay tuned later this week for our follow-up video with the benchmarking results.

I had to buy an OEM computer in a very short amount of time for under 500 euros (screen included).
So, what I got is an Acer x3200 with:
-a Acer mobo with locked BIOS even though the chipset is nVidia (720a)
-a slightly dated AMD Athlon x2 4050e (2.1GHz)
-4 Go of no-brand RAM
-a DVD Burner/Reader
-2x 150Go Hard Drives
-nVidia GeForce 9500 GS (512Mo)

My project so far is to:
1. Change case and PSU : Antec Three Hundred and Corsair TX-750W
2. Change GPU to a HD4890, GTX 275, HD5770 or HD4870
3. Change Mobo and CPU to DDR3 – Quad or x3 core Athlon or Phenom CPU – SLI or Crossfire compatible
4. Screen, Keyboard, Mouse, Sound Card…

I’m going to do this over several weeks as my budget is very limited (I’m still in college).
